Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge

Tallahatchie National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1991 and consists of 4,199 acres in Grenada and Tallahatchie Counties. With a primary purpose of regaining some of the land that was cleared for agriculture. Bisected by the Tippo Bayou, the low lying fields flood in the winter. The refuge is also home to a wide array of fish including the Paddlefish, a primitive fish that has been swimming in North American waters since the Cretaceous period. The fish can grow over 7 feet long and up to 200 pounds. The refuge is administered by the North Mississippi National Wildlife Refuge located in Grenada, MS.
